ABOUT THE BAND

 


DAVE CAUDILL 
Drums, 5th year with LC Swing

Dave has been playing drums professionally for 38 years.  In college he was a member of the University of Florida Marching and Jazz bands.  Dave studied under Warren Johnson (Florida Symphony), James Hale (UF), and Sandy Feldstein.  He has performed with Vaughn Monroe, Anita Bryant, Les Elgart, Leslie Gore, George Gobel, Glenn Miller Orchestra, Mac Frampton and various local combos and big bands.  He is an avid hunter and currently a Science teacher at Oak Park Middle School in Leesburg, Florida.


GEORGE W. "Chip" CHERNAULT
Piano, 8 years with LC Swing
Chip is a graduate of Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Virginia and taught school for 37 years in Virginia and Florida. He is accomplished in both keyboard and reed instruments. Both Chip and his wife are church organists in Mount Dora, Florida and also play in the Orlando Sentinel Community Band.

DOUG COVER
2nd Alto Saxophone, 12 years with LC Swing
Doug Cover played in the University of Iowa and Iowa All-State Bands. He graduated Valedictorian with a Business degree in 1964 and at age 28 became GE’s youngest sales manager. Doug was General Electric’s nominee for a Cabinet level position in the Nixon Administration. He held management positions in R & D, Personnel, Manufacturing and Product Management, and retired from GE in 1996 as Manager of $500 Million division.

SIDNEY K. DAVIS
1st Trombone, 7years with LC Swing
A 1974 graduate of Florida State University with a BME degree, Sid taught high school band for 24 years in Greensboro, Chattahoochee, Clermont, South Lake, and Groveland, Florida. He has been playing trombone for 45 years and is currently playing semi-professionally in 5 different bands- swing, jazz, Dixieland, progressive jazz, and pop.


ALI DICKSON
Vocalist, 6 years with LC Swing
Ali received her BA in Music Education from Concordia College, Moorhead, MN. She worked as a professional musician for ten years, touring the United States and Canada. During those years she was a National Anthem soloist for Minnesota Twins Baseball and Timberwolves Basketball teams, studio musician and opening act for Bob Hope, Louise Mandrell and the Smothers Brothers. She was the Director of Daystar Academy of Music & Performing Arts in Leesburg, FL for ten years where she also was a vocal coach, and musical theater instructor. Ali is a former Mrs. Lake County and was given the title of Mrs. Congeniality by the Mrs. Florida Pageant contestants in 2003. She is currently the Director of Music and Media at Lake Square Presbyterian Church in Leesburg and continues to teach voice lessons.


MATT GEHMAN
1st Trumpet, 5 years with LC Swing
Matt began playing trumpet at age 10 and has been playing for 32 years. He attended Michigan and Liberty Universities and is self employed.

GARY GOULD
Bass, 4th year with LC Swing
Gary has played bass for 30 years in various venues from funk to gospel.  He performed with The Delrays for eight years and also with vocalist Melissa Morgan.  He moved to Orlando from New York in 2000 and currently plays with "First Born", "Ictus", and LC Swing.  First Born's first CD, Excursions, can be heard at cdbaby.com.  Gary is currently employed as a Manager at the US Postal Service.

WESLEY JOHNSON
4th Trumpet, 8 years with LC Swing
Wes earned a BS degree from Mansfield University, and his MED in Music Education from Penn State University. A WW II veteran, Wes served in the US Navy aboard the submarine Tender USS Proteus. He taught instrumental music for 17 years in Elmira Heights, NY and was Co-Founder of the Chemung County Concert band. Currently, Wes is Director & lead trumpet for the M & M Swing Band, Conductor of the Lake Concert Band, 1st trumpet “Vintage 5” Brass Quartet of Hawthorne. He has been a Mason for over 25 years – Master of Lodge in 1981.


LARRY LUTTE, Director
Alto Saxophone, Clarinet, 11 years with LC Swing – 9 as Director
Larry received his Masters degree in Music Education from University of Kansas and taught secondary instrumental music for 20 years. He is the Founder of the Kansas Band Masters which continues to operate today. Larry switched careers and worked in private business for another 20 years before retiring. Today, Larry is director of LC Swing and a member of the Lake Saxophone Quartet and Orlando Concert Band.

 
OLE OLSEN
2nd Trombone, 5 years with LC Swing
Ole played lead trombone in high school. Upon graduation he played lead trombone in the dance, marching, and Dixieland bands with the 5th Infantry Division Army Band at Fort Polk, Louisiana. He was a member of the Lakeland Concert Band and Winter Haven Community Concert Band and currently plays at church and with the Orlando Sentinel Band.


DOUG REINHARD
Baritone Sax, 12 years with LC Swing
Doug earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Eastern Michigan University. He currently plays with 4 different bands- LC Swing, the Orlando Concert Band, Lake Saxophone Quartet, and a small rock group.


SALLY RUSSELL
2nd Tenor Sax and Clarinet, 5th year with LC Swing
Sally has her BS & MS degrees in Music Education from Indiana State University. She was a public school band director and music teacher 10 years in Indiana and Florida. A Choral Publications manager at Hal Leonard Corporation since 1991, Sally is also the Founder of “All Things Musical”, a company that creates free resource publications for music teachers across the country.

 
BILL ROOT
Bass Trombone, 4th year with LC Swing
Bill played bass trombone in high school and college in a variety of dance, jazz, and concert band and orchestras. He earned his BS degree from the University of Buffalo and put his horn away to embark on a career in business. He is currently in his 37th year with General Mills, during which time he has held a variety of senior management positions.  In the early 1980’s at the urging of his son’s high school band director, he dusted off his horn and studied with Doug Courtwright of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra to get back in shape. In Syracuse he was a regular member of the Syracuse University Brass Ensemble and the “Bones East” professional trombone choir. A job promotion landed him in Minneapolis, Minnesota where he played with the Jazz on the Prairie Big Band, The Good News Big Band, and the Eden Prairie Concert Band until he transferred to Florida in 2005. Bill and his wife Kathleen are avid classic antique wood boat enthusiasts and own a 22' mahogany runabout that he restored himself. Bill is presently a member of the Hawthorne of Leesburg Orchestra, the Lake Concert Band and LC Swing.
JOHN SANDOVAL
Guitar, 6 years with LC Swing
John Sandoval has been playing guitar for 40 years. He began playing professionally at age 13, playing all types of music. He is currently employed as a Micro Biologist for Silver Springs Citrus, Inc.


HARLOUS B. WILSON
Emcee, Vocalist, 13 years with LC Swing
Harlous began playing professionally in high school. He received his Bachelor of Music Education and ME from Eastern Michigan University and taught vocal & instrumental music and orchestra in Elementary and Jr. High school for 31 years. He served as Minister of Music 1st Presbyterian Church in Ypsilanti, Michigan. After retirement, Harlous moved to Florida and was the special music at Lake Square Presbyterian Church in Leesburg for 3 years while serving as Minister of Music at Bushnell Methodist Church. He continues to serve as a soloist and church musician at Lake Square Presbyterian Church in Leesburg, and is a vocalist and plays bass in the M & M Dance band.
